授業概要 Course overview |
Students learn skills in designing experiments in Infection biology, RNA biology and eukaryotic gene expression. | Students will acquire skills to understand the purpose, methods, and results of latest articles related to Infection biology, RNA biology and eukaryotic gene expression. Students will discuss the significances, problems, and future directions of the study. | Students will learn the experimental principles and methods required for the research in the proper handling of microbes. Students will acquire the ability to carry out the experiments with reproducibility and to evaluate the reliability of experimental results. |

1. To develop an ability to select important articles from from online search service. 2. To develop an ability to introduce research topics to a general audience in time given. 3. To be able to discuss the unclear points and significances of the articles which are explained by other paticipants. 4. Students study the experimental basis and method to investigate gene expression in protozoan parasite at molecular level, including but not limited to: 1. Culturing bacteria and parasites. 2. Construction of recombinant genes, sub-cloning, and DNA sequencing. 3. Express and purify the recombainant proteins. 4. Site Specific Mutagenesis. 5. Transefecting DNA into prasites. 6. Gene targeting and RNAi in protozoan parasite. |

Weekly, Friday 16:30 (6th period) Through discussion, students acquire knowledge and creativity to set proper research objective, select appropriate methodology, understand the significance of results, and to learn how to design experiments independently. |
Bi-weekly, Wednedsday 18:00 Class meets every other week. Topics to be discussed will be resaerch articles selected by students or from the textbook chapters. Points to be learned include: How to select research papers. Histrical background and creativity of good scientific papers. Structure of scientific papers. How to interpretate the results. Logical flow in scientific papers. |

Students are evaluated by the achievement of the objectives listed in the SBO. - Fair achievement in the SBOs 1 and 2: Pass (C). - Good achievement in the SBOs 1, 2 and 3, and actively conducted SBO 4: Pass (B). SBOs 1 - 3 will be evaluated based on a brief report in terms of presentation and dicsussion. - Excellent achievement in SBOs 1-4 Pass (A) |
