授業概要 Course overview |
The mechanisms of the progression and therapeutic approaches for the renal diseases will be lectured from viewpoints of pathology, immunology, biochemistry, physiology, molecular biology and epedemiology. Based on the current information, experiments to clarify unknown problems are planned and performed with our well-trained lecturers. |
In this seminar (journal club), students learn how to read research articles in nephrology. Students will select a representative article, read it, and understand its aim, methods, results, and discussion section. Finally, they are able to discuss about some issues by themselves. | In this course, students will practically learn experimental principles and methods required for the research in basic and clinical nephrology. |
授業の到達目標(学修成果) Course Objectives (Learning Outcomes) ←SBO(Specific Behavior Objectives |
1. To be able to present the purpose, methods, results, assessment, and future directions of student’s own research projects. 2. To be able to explain the position and originality of student’s own research projects in this research field. 3. To be able to understand the questions and comments for student’s presentation, and apply them for improvement of student’s research activities. 4. To be able to understand the significance and defect of other speaker’s presentation, provide constructive criticism, and discuss them. 5. To be able to understand the pathophysiology of kidney and renal diseases at the level of tissue, cells, and molecules, and give the outline. 6. To be able to understand the experimental protocols and the bioethical rules following student’s own research projects, plan, apply, and practice appropriate experiments. |
1. To be able to select a paper to read from recent scientific journal. 2. To be able to understand the contents of the papers and explain its outline to colleagues within time to discuss. 3. To be able to read the papers on ahead, understand the contents presented by colleagues, and discuss about its significance and query. 4. To be able to explain its background and position of nephrological research. |
1. To be able to understand the basis of cell culture, culture, cryopreserve, thaw, observe, and passage cultured cells. 2. To be able to analyze quantitatively gain-of-function and loss-of-function of cell proliferation. 3. To be able to detect the expression pattern of a particular molecule in cultured cells or tissues with immunofluorescence staining. 4. To be able to fix, dehydrate, embed tissues, and thin-section 5. To be able to detect the expression pattern of a particular molecule in tissues with immunohistochemistry staining including antigen retrieval, optimization of staining, and evaluation of specificity. 6. To be able to construct recombinant cDNA in accordance with an intended use with the knowledge of law required for experiment of gene recombination and molecular biology 7.To be able to analyse and interpret experimental and clinical data using proper statistical methods. |

授業計画 Course Schedule 第1回(月日、時限)担当教員名 講義内容など |
Students present and discuss about their research to acquire the knowledge, build originality and self-sustainability enable to review the purpose, methods, results, and future directions of the research associated with the pathophysiology of kidney and renal diseases. Students usually check the general knowledge on the basis of individual particular discussion. | ・Selection of a paper for journal club, focusing on historical values and originality ・Understanding construction of a selected paper ・How to read experimental results ・Logics and coherence of a selected paper |
1. Basic techniques for cell culture 2. Quantitative analysis of cell proliferation by cell counting and BrdU incorporation 3. Immunofluorescence staining of cultured cells 4. Fixation, dehydration, embedding of tissues, and thin-sectioning 5. Immunohistochemical staining (immunofluorescence and immunoenzymatic technique) including antigen retrieval, optimization of staining, and evaluation of specificity 6. Statistical methods and its interpretation. |
