Farhana Ferdousi

Farhana Ferdousi Postdoctoral Fellow

I am interested to conduct my research in Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs), which are a group of chronic disabling infections affecting more than 1 billion people worldwide. Currently I have been working on Visceral Leishmaniasis (Kala-Azar), the 3rd most important vector-borne disease of the world. My study is to evaluate the potential role of neem extract (plant origin natural insecticide) to control Visceral Leishmaniasis in Bangladesh.
For my PhD study, I am interested to study on Childhood Tuberculosis.

Ayako Sato

Ayako Sato Doctoral Program in Clinical Sciences

From the experience of drug development, I am interested in and doing a research of clinical trial design. I would like do research which will lead to a solution for any one of various challenges in current clinical trials. I like playing tennis, but have not played recently.

Rashid MD Harunor

Rashid MD Harunor Doctoral Program in Clinical Sciences

I am a doctoral student in the program of clinical sciences under the graduate school of comprehensive human sciences. I am interested in the area of health system research and maternal and child health.
My aim is to improve the quality of maternal and child health as well as reduce the rich and poor gaps in utilizing the health facilities in the people of Bangladesh by introducing the unique and equally accessible health model in the Bangladesh.

Farzana Ferdous

Farzana Ferdous Doctoral Program in Clinical Sciences

My interests in general are in maternal and child health, etiology and epidemiology of infectious diseases, and life style as well as food habits related to non-communicable diseases. For my PhD, I would like to study maternal and environmental influences on intrauterine and early childhood organ development. As a public health professional, I would like to serve poorer people of my country as well as throughout the world. By enlarge I would ultimately be able to contribute towards global health.

Yuko Nozawa

Yuko Nozawa Doctoral Program in Clinical Sciences

I am a first year doctoral student. I worked for a pharmaceutical company for eight years, after getting the master's degree in pharmaceutical science. Through the experiences of clinical studies for medicines under development, I have felt I need to learn the skills further to design studies and evaluate the results appropriately. Now I am engaged in the clinical studies of a unique population in a new field and I am also interested in the design for the small sample size studies.

Takahiro Nunokawa

Takahiro Nunokawa Doctoral Program in Clinical Sciences

I am a first year doctoral student. I have worked as a physician and my subspecialty is rheumatology. I have a great interest in vasculitis. There are a lot of unsolved clinical questions in rheumatology. I would like to learn how to solve them in my PhD course. I grew up in Tsukuba before entering university. I am very happy to live here again.

Masashi Shimura

Masashi Shimura Doctoral Program in Clinical Sciences

My research field is biostatistics. I am interested in developing a new statistical method for estimating exactly the effect of new drug in clinical trial. Exact estimation of the treatment effect compared to the standard treatment is important in terms of decision making in medicine. However, in clinical trials with interim analysis, it is well known that maximum likelihood estimator, which is used generally for estimation of the treatment effect, has bias. Through my statistical research for exact estimation of treatment effect in that situation, I would like to contribute something to clinical research.

Crispin Manda

Crispin Manda Master of public health

I graduated from College of Medicine a constituent college of the University of Malawi. I studied Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science (Biomedical Sciences) in my undergraduate. I then worked at Zomba Central Hospital in Malawi for more than 3 years. This is where I developed interest to contribute to the development of strong disease surveillance systems which would strengthen evidence informed public health policy development and improve public health interventions. To achieve my goal I had to be able to produce scientific and technical information through research. Studying public health and epidemiology will therefore equip me with the much needed skills.

Carolyn Kemonto Nyamasege

Carolyn Kemonto Nyamasege Master of public health

I have done my undergraduate and masters degree course in Food nutrition and Dietetics from The University of Nairobi, Kenya. Previously I worked with research institutions as a research assistant and later joined academics as a graduate teaching assistant for a short period. Without adequate skills on public health (Epidemiology and Biostatistics), my dream of identifying risk factors of poor diet related diseases, determining their causal relationships and measures to control them among different populations in the world will not be achieved. My interest is Nutrition Epidemiology, improvement of infant and maternal health. I hope to make a well informed epidemiologist and a reliable consultant in the near future as well as improve the quality of life and life expectancy of most of the developing countries through disease prevention.

Corrine Schwier

Corrine Schwier Master of public health

I am a first year Master's student, interested in promoting women's health and increasing preventative measures. I am from the United States, specifically the Washington, D.C. metro area, where I worked as an Operating Room Nurse, specializing in gynecological oncology and robotic assisted surgery. Working with patients that were facing advanced stages of cancer facilitated my drive toward increasing preventative care and early detection methods for cancer in women. I have a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing from Marymount University and a Bachelor's of the Arts in Language Arts and Literature from Christopher Newport University. I am excited to increase my global health awareness as well as expand my cultural knowledge while studying here in Japan.

Tomoyuki Miyashita

Tomoyuki Miyashita Master of public health

I am a first year master student. I studied chemistry in my undergraduate. I had an interest in public health through measuring chemicals in environment so I am learning epidemiology in this laboratory.

Motohiko Adomi

Motohiko Adomi Undergraduate Program

I am a medical student of the university, studying clinical trials and epidemiology at lab. My biggest interest is how CDISC standards, recently being developed standards for clinical trials, can be a useful tool in clinical trials.
