From the Chair of the Doctoral Program in Clinical Sciences

Young people who are interested in human disease research!

Diseases have distressed human beings since ancient times. Fighting against diseases has been fruitful, which in turn has contributed to civilization. For an individual student to participate in and study at this program means to establish a foundation as a researcher, or to think how he or she create a career while contributing to society as a leader.
The gate to the Program in Clinical Sciences is wide open to young people who have completed a master’s program in a variety of life sciences and health care sciences, as well as, of course, physicians who have started clinical training. Broad-mindedness with good depth is a feature that this program is proud of, and it is a major premise that each individual’s purpose is distinct from another’s. The only requirement for all students is an enthusiasm for innovation to better understand and control diseases. What is the potential motivation that one considers in choosing the Program in Clinical Sciences and obtaining a PhD title in it? I will personally imagine some. However, no one needs to think about them too seriously; a number of ideas may emerge.

I have graduated from the University XXXX in a country YYYY and have a position at ZZZZ. The level of scientific research in Japan, located in the Far East, is equal to that in Europe and North America, and the idea of pursuing research in a graduate school in Japan attracts me a lot. I am particularly interested in research performed in the laboratory UUUU at the Program in Clinical Sciences at the University of Tsukuba. The city of Tsukuba is one of the biggest centers of scientific research in Japan. It is likely that the living conditions are excellent, while having very good access to the central part of Tokyo.
I have graduated from a university, majoring in science, and will have completed a master program in life sciences. Now, I am aware that I am interested in disease-oriented research. My ideas will be better realized by choosing the Program in Clinical Sciences. I believe that this decision will convey a great future to me.
I am now studying in the Frontier Science Program (a master degree program) at the University of Tsukuba. My mentor also has an affiliation with the Program in Clinical Sciences and my research theme is related to a specific disease. I am convinced that continuing my current research is the way to open up my future.
I have completed the 2-year postgraduate clinical training and am now in a program for specialty training. I feel increasing enthusiasm within myself to learn more about how I can better control diseases. I also want to experience the joy of achievement. It is time for me to enter the PhD program for disease-oriented research.
I am in a clinical training program. I have been dreaming of playing an active role in an international framework. Indeed, I now feel that I need to read English papers to brush up my knowledge. There are no country borders for scientists. As a graduate student, it is likely that I could make a presentation on my own research in an international scientific/medical meeting, if I make a progress in my research; and I believe it is also likely that I can study in a laboratory in another country.
I have completed my whole training program and have obtained a license in a clinical specialty. Now I feel I should build up my career by choosing the Program in Clinical Sciences and make further use of my clinical skill and expertise in future.

We maintain a “Pleasant educational research environment” with the purpose of “Nurturing young professionals who can be entrusted with the future”. At the same time, we aim at “Responding to Internationalization”, “Advancement of the medical sciences and medical treatment”, and “Contributions to humanity”.

The mission for the young people who study medical sciences and medical treatment is to disseminate their research outcomes, contribute to the human life sciences through elucidating the pathogenesis of intractable diseases, and develop new treatment stratagems.
