2012 American College of Rheumatology/ Association of Rheumatology Health Professionals Annual Meeting
I truly appreciate this opportunity to participate in this Internship Program.
I was given an opportunity to participate in a conference, American College of Rheumatology in Washington D.C in the United States of America for six days from November 10, 2012.
My purposes for my first participation in this international conference were having discussions with foreign researchers to acquire all sorts of knowledge and asking questions when the information on my target molecule, which abroad has been actively researched on, came up.
To my surprise, phenomena which are involved in the condition of arthritis patients that we in Japan do not know much about are commonly known in America. Also research to support the facts is more actively carried out there. There was a researcher who gave a poster presentation on the molecule which I target. I felt I have to hurry up when I found out that the researcher is doing the same research as I do. Discussion with researchers made me recognize what I should experiment on and how accurate the direction of my research is. That was the most valuable experience I had from this conference.
This time, I failed from selection for this conference, however If I pass the selection next year and can have discussions with a variety of researchers in many different ways, I will increase my understanding even more.
