Report on 33rd ESPEN congress

I was able to have an opportunity to participate in this 33rd ESPEN congress and gave a presentation receiving a support from Musha-shugyou、which is a plan for career development of the University of Tsukuba Graduate School of Human Sciences Majors of Medical Sciences.
Since both ESPN and ASPEN of America ( American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition) are well-established, respected societies, for me to participating in this conference was very meaningful.
This was my second presentation in this conference for the second straight year.
The theme of the presentation was to unravel the meaning and significance of glycemic control under severely infected pathological conditions. Although it was a poster presentation, I felt that it was deeply accepted by those people, who manage severe pathologies on a daily basis such as, surgeons, emergency physicians and so forth. I was able to discuss with more people than last year, especially, I received a grateful comment from professor Preiser for preparing the paper early (Professor Preiser is an authority of nutritional management of under severe pathology also involves in creating ESPEN guidline ). Besides that, I received an offer to do collaboration research, advice on the direction to my future research, and so forth. I was able to have a valuable discussion.
The theme of W- 3 fatty acid stood out from other subjects of presentations, just like last year. Although the large scale of study result about administer of nutrients at the acute stage by Switzerland research group was interesting, the last day's presenter, Professor Van Den Berghe's presentation, had the most impact. In short, it was a large scale study showing that administering nutrients through the jugular vein at the acute stage leads to exacerbation of the prognosis. I found it very interesting because it does not contradict the results of my animal experiments.
Since this was my second time to participate, I was more relaxed compared to last year, so I gave a satisfactory presentation and discussion. Hearing a number of comments and other presentations increased my motivation for my future research and it was a very worthwhile participation in this conference.
