Doctoral & Master's Programs in Nursing Science(M)

Desired Applicants

We look for students who have a basic knowledge of nursing science and a desire to explore nursing at an international level based on solid ethics and who wish to become educators, researchers, certified nurse specialists, or midwives who will take leading roles in nursing after completion of the program.

Purpose of Personnel Development

In Japan, where the birth rate is declining and the population is aging, the demand for medical care is increasing and diversifying due to the complex, long-term health problems of patients with multiple diseases and disabilities. This graduate program is one stage in the development of researchers, etc. with a broad and deep knowledge who can contribute to solve these issues based on scientific evidence in nursing science, and also develop highly-specialized professionals such as certified nurse specialists and midwives.

Individuals who have interdisciplinary and global perspectives, who explore nursing based on solid ethics and scientific evidence, and who have the attitude to improve as a researcher. Individuals who can become nurses with specialized knowledge, skills, and practical skills that form the basis for nursing research and practice as well as nursing educators who support nursing education.

Diploma Policy

The degree of Master (Nursing Science) is awarded to those who fulfill the requirements for completion of the master's program as prescribed in the Graduate School Regulations of the University of Tsukuba and related regulations, and who are recognized as having the following knowledge and abilities.

We look for students who are willing to contribute to the knowledge system of nursing science through the creation of new knowledge by utilizing nursing practice and research skills developed in the master's program. We also look for students who can become educators, researchers, and highly-specialized professionals who bridge between practice and theory based on interdisciplinary and global perspectives.

Purpose of Personnel Development

A demand for medical experts who can respond scientifically and flexibly to the diverse medical need of people from different cultural backgrounds with creativity. Based on interdisciplinary and global perspectives, this graduate program develops individuals who can not only have professional knowledge and skills as highly-specialized professionals, educators, and researchers of nursing, and nursing and medical experts in the policy and administration fields, but can also constantly verify nursing practice with a research-oriented mindset. In addition, it develops individuals who can develop new nursing techniques and education and research methods not only in the specialized fields of nursing, but also based on "interdisciplinary" and "science" areas.
