ACTIVITY
Enrich your student life through interaction with seniors and peers.
Pursuing your interests and making many friends is essential for leading a fulfilling student life.
The University of Tsukuba has approximately 250 student organizations, including cultural, athletic, and arts-related clubs.
On-Campus Housing
Student residence halls are located in the Ichinoya, Hirasuna, Oikosu, and Kasuga areas within the Tsukuba Campus. Priority for private room occupancy is given to new students who live far away. A typical room is approximately 10㎡ (about 6 tatami mats) and is equipped with a desk, chair, bed, washbasin, and an internal telephone.
Each residential building has shared kitchenettes for light cooking, laundry rooms, shower rooms, and restrooms. Additionally, there are community centers that house administration offices, cafeterias, public baths (Hirasuna area only), convenience stores, barber shops, and hair salons. Monthly costs (for AY 2024) are 15,380 yen for non-renovated rooms or 19,410 yen for renovated rooms, plus additional charges for electricity, meals, and bath fees.
To ensure resident safety and crime prevention, an access code-based security system is installed at the entrances of the buildings. All rooms are equipped with LAN (both wired and wireless), allowing students to use the internet without having to sign an individual contract with a provider.
Furthermore, to promote campus internationalization, the "Global Village"—a share-house style residence hall focusing on international exchange—has been in operation since April 2017.
Off-Campus Housing
There are a considerable number of apartments and other housing options in the areas surrounding the university. Rents vary depending on the area, the age of the building, and available facilities. However, the average monthly rent for an apartment (approx. 10㎡, including a kitchen, bath, and toilet) ranges from about 35,000 to 50,000 yen. Security deposits (shikikin) and key money (reikin) are typically equivalent to 1 to 2 months' rent each.
STUDENT SUPPORT
Tuition Exemption
This system exempts students from tuition fees if they have difficulty paying due to financial reasons and demonstrate outstanding academic performance.
